Vermont's most revered monument, this 300-foot-tall obelisk commemorates the victory of the Continental Army (carrying then what was the first American flag into battle) over the British in 1777, a turning point in the Revolutionary War. An elevator now goes to the top, where during the fall spectators can see huge swaths of classic New England foliage on the surrounding hillsides.
