Take a drive to Engleberg, about 21 miles from Lucerne, to see the country and enjoy the views. But do stop in at the Cheese Factory.
Okay, it's a little hokey, but the Cheese Factory, not surprisingly the only cheese factory housed in a real monastery, will be interesting to families.
Cheese making takes place daily from 11:00 a.m. t o 4:00 p.m., so time your visit accordingly. You can see how several kinds of cheeses are made, then buy some samples right there in the shop.
