FamilyExpert Tips & Helpful Hints
  • There is no better place in Switzerland--or most of Europe-- for classical concerts than during the International Music Festival in Lucerne, each August and September. Performances are set in locations around the city, including the stunning new concert hall. The festival dates back to 1938 when the legendary Arturo Toscanini gave a concert at Haus Tribschen, once home of composer Richard Wagner.
  • The festival brings orchestras from the world over--the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonics, and in 2007 symphonies from London, San Francisco and Boston. You can buy tickets online, but many of the performances are free.
  • The festival welcomes children, offering free children's workshop concerts throughout the festival.

Located at Haus Tribschen, Richard Wagner's home.
