It can be reached by boat from Tüscherz, Wingreis, Twann, Ligerz, La Neuveville, Erlach and Lüscherz. It was here on St. Peter's Isle in Lake Biel that the famous philosopher, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, in his own words "spent the happiest time of his life"! Nowadays his former residence, a monastery, houses the well-known restaurant and hotel St. Petersinsel.
