The 90-foot tall Harbour Town Lighthouse was built in 1970 as a symbol for the Sea Pines Plantation development. The lighthouse guides boats in from the waterway on the mainland side of the island. Every 2.5 seconds a white light flashes from the top of the lighthouse. Visitors can climb the lighthouse and enjoy a view of Hilton Head; at the top there is a gift shop selling nautical and lighthouse themed merchandise.
