Eleven miles from the center of lively Cape Town is otherworldly Sandy Bay, which feels like it's 1,000 miles from anywhere despite the upscale neighborhoods nearby. The roomy, secluded, and always empty feeling South Atlantic beach is one of the last undeveloped stretches of coast in the area, with huge granite slabs peppering the sand. These rocks make for natural wind buffers and privacy barriers for nude sunbathers. The surrounding virgin forests cascading to the sea from the slopes above are part of the Table Mountain Nature Reserve. The beach is also accessible from Hout Bay, and when the waves are up they're good for surfers and boogie boarders. Bring water and food since there are no facilities.
