This area was originally thinned by horse and later by machine in order to open up the overstory for ski trails. Many of the trails follow the old logging skid trails. These trails were newly constructed and reconstructed in 1992 and were designed to accommodate Nordic skiers and mountain bikers.

During the spring and summer, these trails are bordered with abundant wildflowers. During the winter, it is common to see deer and other wildlife. The trails offers a skate deck and double set of tracks.

Directions: From Newport, Proceed through Newport and follow Hwy. 20 out of town. Just as you leave town, turn west onto Larch St. Continue for a block before turning north onto Laurelhurst Drive which will lead you to the trailhead. There are signs from Hwy. 20 which direct you to the trails.

Difficulty: Moderate/Strenuous
