Laughing Dog is located in Ponderay, a small community just two miles north of Sandpoint. The small-distribution microbrewery frequently picks up awards from beer competitions and festivals, including a silver and a bronze at the 2007 North American Beer Awards. The cozy taproom is good for a few tasting glasses, and the small staff (including the founders and brewmasters) will happily talk you up about the fruits of their labor. If you're lucky, you may even spot Ben, the brewery's chuckling golden retriever namesake—and feel free to bring your own pooch in, as well. Rarely do you find an atmosphere this relaxed and beer this good in the same location.
