BeachExpert Tips & Helpful Hints
- Pupukea Beach is a short distance from Waimea Bay Beach Park. There are lifeguards on duty; other facilities include restrooms, showers, and phones.
- Shark's Cove has good snorkeling and a spot for night diving; the best diving is generally just outside the cove. The ledges, arches, and other natural features at Three Tables Cove attract snorkelers and divers.
- Winter waters are absolutely treacherous. Don't even walk near the tidepools, let alone enter the ocean.
Pupukea is another schizophrenic North Shore beachcalm and welcoming in summer, but a powerhouse of mammoth waves and deadly currents in winter. In summer the marine life conservation district opens to the public.
