The Halemau'u Trail crosses ten miles to the Haleakala Crater. Gradually sloping through native shrubland to the valley rim, the path switchbacks and descends 1,400 feet to the crater floor. Six miles farther at Paliku Campground, the trail joins with Sliding Sands Trail.
