• It's not a water activity, but you are guaranteed truly breathtaking views of the Pacific and Molokai's coastline as you and your mule descend the nearly 1,700-foot cliff to the park below (don't close your eyes, even if you're nervous). This is by far the most interesting way to get to Kalaupapa National Historical Park.
• There's a reason the expression, "As surefooted as a mule," exists—while it is safe, it can be unnerving, especially for anyone with a fear of heights. There are 26 switchbacks in the trail, cut into the cliffside in 1889, thoughtfully numbered so you know exactly how many more you have to go around before the ride is over.
• This is a full-day adventure that includes the ride down, a guided tour of Kalaupapa National Historical Park, lunch, and the ride back up the cliff. Closed-toe shoes are a must, long pants are recommended, and you should bring bottled water and pocket snacks.
