Down a long dirt road, through a wooded area, lies a hidden gem of a beach. Mahaulepu Beach has a couple of miles of undeveloped shoreline to explore. Although you will see windsurfers here, the rough water and reefs make surfing and bodyboarding hazardous. The beach is on private property that is publicly accessible.

  • If you're lucky, you may see the endangered Hawaiian monk seal on this beach.
  • There are strong currents here. Dangerous waves break on rocks, ledges and reefs, and beware of the sharp coral.
  • Be sure to leave by the posted hour, otherwise the gates close and there's no one to call to get out.
Off the beaten path, this beach is one for the slightly adventurous. It's privately-owned land that is publicly accessible, and there are no facilities. Expect your car to get dirty when driving down the dirt road.
