Editor Tips & Helpful Hints
- This marvelous lookout is worth the drive, and it's free. But don't drive all the way up 270 just to gawk at the scenery; be prepared for a half-hour hike down the trail (sometimes known as the Awini Trail).
- At the base of the cliff is a black sand beach known as Pololu Valley Beach. Don't swim here--the waves are too rough. Just sit back and admire the view, and perhaps pack a picnic lunch.
- The more adventurous can hike a different route back, over the next ridge into the Honokane Nui Valley. This will take an additional 45 minutes each way.
