Built in the mid-'60s and expanded in the 1990s, this small museum is a must-stop for visitors to Corfu, even if ancient history isn't necessarily your thing. From bronze statues to stone lions to marble busts to ancient surgical tools and coins, it gives a fascinating context to everything that has happened on this historically important island. Some of the pieces are nearly 3,000 years old, excavated from classical and pre-classical settlements and temple sites, particularly the ancient Temple of Artemis (circa 590 B.C.), which was once located in the area. Be sure to glimpse the interesting pediment of the Gorgon Medusa, flanked by two panther-like animals.
