Built by King Ludwig II between 1869 and 1886, Neuschwanstein is one of the most popular of all the palaces and castles in Europe. It was the inspiration for Disney World's Cinderella Castle, and is one of the most recognizable landmarks in Germany.

  • There's a long-ish uphill hike to the castle entrance, so wear comfortable shoes and bring a lightweight stroller or Baby Bjorn if you have infants or toddlers.
  • Make sure you buy your tickets at the kiosk in Hohenschwangau before you set off for the castle. You will have to hike back down if you don't!
  • No photography is allowed inside, so be sure to snap those iconic pics from afar.
