A short loop trail leads to the site of the partially completed railroad tunnel. Historic interpretation is provided at the trailhead. The park provides access to the Iron Horse Trail that is designed for both day hikes and overnight hiking.
Directions: From New Germantown, PA, Head southwest on PA Route 274 approximately 6 miles to Big Spring State Park. Park in the lot closest to Shermans Creek. Cross the foot bridge. The trail splits and travels to a horseshoe road off Hemlock Road. Once you reach the horseshoe road, travel south onto Hemlock Road. Walk a few steps north on Hemlock Road to reach the longest portion of the trail which travels on Tuscarora State Forest land and to the historic site.
