- Less than an hour from Paris by train is Giverny, home and gardens of artist Claude Monet, leader of the Impressionist School. Passionate about flowers, Monet personally created these magical gardens that inspired many of his greatest paintings, including the Water Lillies series.
- Before going, read Linnea in Monet's Garden with your children. The now classic children's book by Cristina Bjork is the story of an exuberant young girl's visit to Giverny. It's an utterly charming introduction to Impressionism and a snapshot of Monet's life as well as the joy of travel. Included is Monet's biography and a short guide to Paris from a child's perspective.
- Take the train from Gare Saint Lazare in Paris; a bus meets the frequent trains for the short ride to the property. There is a restaurant at Giverny, so feel free to spend a day immersed in a brilliantly colored world of flowers and art.
