This wide, gorgeous beach in Basse-Terre is considered one of the best in the French Caribbean. The yellow-brown sands slope steeply into the water, with excellent rockless swimming. Palm trees line the powdery sands that stretch on for more than half a mile. There aren't any facilities here beyond a parking lot with some food stands, despite the beach's popularity and the fact that it can get crowded at times (particularly on Sundays). La Grande Anse feels remote and secluded even though it is easily accessible from the main road. The road leading to the southern end of the beach is long and very rocky and, although the rocks are small, be prepared for a bumpy ride. La Grande Anse is just outside Deshaies, reached by heading west from Sainte Rose along the N2.
