Lagoon Trail can be accessed from two different locations - either just east of Stagecoach Trailhead or from Lagoon Campground. Most of the trail is fully accessible from the campground for those with physical limitations. The trail meanders across wooden boardwalks, following an old arm of the Siltcoos River, called an oxbow. Once known as the "River of No Return", the oxbow was cut off when the road was built in the 1930's. As new plant communities gradually succeed each other, the area will eventually become a meadow and then a forest. Viewing platforms with interpretive signs and wooden benches offer opportunities to relax and observe. Keen eyesight and patience will help find hidden wildlife like beavers, nutrias, ducks, herons and bitterns.
Directions: From Florence, Travel south on Highway 101 for seven miles. The trailhead is one mile west of U.S. Highway 101 on Siltcoos Beach Access Road.
