Taft Waterfront Park is a compact city park from which Salishan Spit, a sandy beach, and Siletz Bay can be seen. A variety of birds can be seen here, including Heermann's gull, Caspian tern, western gull, ring-billed gull, glaucous-winged gull, herring gull, loons, grebes, scoters, and red-breasted merganser.

  • Salishan Spit, the park's sandy beach, is popular with surfers and boogie boarders. It's also great for kitesurfing and ocean kayaking, and the park is a good place to watch the action even if you don't join in.
  • Warning: The undertow here is dangerous. Don't take chances or try to exceed your skill level—this isn't the place to learn a new water sport.
  • Parking is only a short distance from the sand, and there are public restrooms.
