Nelscott Reef is an ocean reef near Lincoln City, Oregon that creates a reef break and is known as the only place on the Oregon Coast with the right conditions for tow-in surfing. Named for the former community of Nelscott, now part of Lincoln City, the reef is the home of the Nelscott Reef Tow-In Classic, which draws some of the biggest names in surfing.

  • The annual Nelscott Reef Big Wave Tow-in Classic takes place when conditions are perfect for mammoth waves.
  • Organizers set a time window during which to monitor conditions. When it's clear the mega waves are coming, competitors and fans have 48 hours to get to Lincoln City for the big event.
  • The competition started in 2005, and it's gaining recognition as one of the prime monster-wave surfing competitions. In 2006, Hawaiian world champions took top honors.
