  • Approximately 200 sea lions live here, depending on the season.
  • Visitors have accessed the cave via an elevator since the 1960s. The elevator descends 208 feet to the only known colony of wild stellar sea lions on the North American mainland. Warning: It's smelly and noisy.
  • Do not take flash photos of the sea lions when you're in the cave as it can frighten and disturb the animals.
Probably the most famous of Florence's attractions, the Sea Lion Caves have drawn visitors for decades, in part because it's the largest known sea cave in the world (as high as a 12-story building and as long as a football field). The cave was discovered in 1880.
