This sanctuary was founded in 1871 by zoologist Ralph Heath and today is the largest non-profit wild bird hospital in the United States. Its mission is the rescue, repair, recuperation, and release of sick and injured wild birds, and to that end, it features emergency facilities, a surgical center, and indoor and outdoor rehabilitation areas. The sanctuary features more than 70 species of sick or injured wild birds.
