• The Peavine Trail threads Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park, which offers both developed and primitive campsites.
• Grab a butterfly and bird checklist when you arrive at the Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park office. In addition to the Eastern Meadowlark, Florida Grasshopper Sparrow, and other birds, the park lists nearly eighty species of butterfly sighted here—more than at any other single location in Florida.
• The extremely straight trail is set on the bed of a shortlived railroad constructed by the Southern Colonization Company, a group of Midwestern businessmen who believed the prairie in the area would make for great farming. They were wrong.
