• Camping at Fort Jefferson is spectacular but decidedly Spartan-esque. If you're not up to it, rest-assured that most visitors find their day trip—packed with bird watching, kayaking, shell-hunting, snorkeling, swimming, and a 40-minute guided tour of Fort Jefferson—more than satisfies their Tortugalust. (The fort tour, incidentally, is completely avoidable ifyou want to avoid it.)
• Though the incredible en-route scenery is best enjoyed on the ship's outer decks, the Yankee Freedom Two also features a comfortable air-conditioned galley serving snacks and soft drinks. The ship's crew breaks out the beer, wine, mixed and frozen drinks on the return trip only, to prevent drunk diving.
• If you're worried that your visit to this pristine locale might make it a somewhat less...pristine, you can take solace in this: The International Standardization Organization has awarded "Freedom" the ISO Environmental Award for outstanding adherence to the group's high environmental standards.
