Gregarious grandmother Naomi Wilzig spent 15 years on the trail of erotic art before opening her private collection to the public in 2005. The 12,000-square-foot space overflows with a paintings, antiques, and sculptures charting the course of human sexuality through the ages, as well as some seriously kitschy knickknacks that look like they came from the most tarted-up flea market on earth. Among the jaw-dropping items in the 4,000-plus-piece collection: an original phallic prop from A Clockwork Orange and a reproduction of a chair allegedly owned by Catherine the Great framed in nudes. Same-sex love gets its own section, and the museum has hosted shows devoted to gay works, including displays such as Italian male nude postcards from the 1800s and sexy photos by Robert Mapplethorpe and Keith Haring.
