By far one of the most unique dive sites you'll ever find, Neptune Memorial Reef is an underwater mausoleum complete with cemetery gates, lion statues, arches, columns, benches, and more than 850 cremated remains mixed with concrete (some in the form of seashells with the names of the dearly departed on them). The cemetery encompasses more than 16 acres and was built as a classical re-creation of the Lost City of Atlantis. It proudly touts its "Green Burial" credentials and was built to strict EPA standards. The site is free and open to the public, and a number of scuba operators from Miami take dive trips here (the site is about 40 feet below the surface). Many families get scuba certified for underwater ceremonies, giving "burial at sea" a whole new meaning.
