Everglades Alligator Farm is home to about 2,000 alligators. ((courtesy, Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau))

Everglades Alligator Farm went into the reptile business in 1985, a few decades after the American alligator was placed on the endangered species list. Sitting at the edge of the Everglades, the farm is home to about 2,000 alligators of all sizes. The smaller alligators are kept in grow-out pens, while the larger ones are in natural settings called breeding ponds. A trip to the farm includes an exciting airboat tour of the surrounding Everglades and a walk around the grounds to see the alligators, crocodiles, caimans, and wildlife. There is also a great display of local snakes, along with some more exotic species from around the world. Informative wildlife shows, alligator feedings, and snake shows are presented hourly.
