This mile-long trek through the rain forest ends at a 300-foot-high waterfall plunging into a cold-water pool. Count on humid, sultry air in the rain forest and a mucky path if it's been raining. Much of the well-marked trail has been covered with logs to help control mud, but the wood is usually wet and slick. The hike itself is only moderately difficult, with the most challenging parts at the steep beginning of the trail and over slippery rocks at stream crossings. Along the way, you will be treated to pristine nature and one very malodorous spot, appropriately called Tou Santi ("Stinking Hole"), a deep fissure home to multitudes of guano-producing bats. To make matters worse, sulfurous fumes stream out of the crevice and mix with the smell from the bats. Breathe shallowly as you pass by, and keep in mind that you will soon be refreshed with the clean fragrance of more than 60 species of trees in the rain-washed forest and a swim in the waterfall pool at the end.
