The outgrowth of a personal sculpture collection donated to the city in the late 19th century by Carl Jacobsen (son of the founder of the Carlsberg brewery), the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek now boasts more than 10,000 works of art, including one of the biggest assemblies of Etruscan art outside of Italy, as well as one of the most important collections of Rodin sculptures outside of France. The works comprise two main groups: ancient art from the Mediterranean cradle (from Egypt to Imperial Rome, including some delicious male nudes), and Danish and French art from the last two centuries (featuring works by Van Gogh, Monet, Renoir, Rodin, and Gauguin, to name just a few). Conveniently located just across from Tivoli Gardens, the Ny Carlsberg is rightfully one of Copenhagen's most popular attractions.
