This area is the most heavily visited wilderness entrance in the Indian Peaks, with literally thousands of visitors in the area on any given summer weekend.

Niwot Ridge Trail branches off of the Jean Luning Trail #907.1. Niwot Ridge has been designated an international biosphere by the UN for arctic and alpine research. Also some of the strongest winds recorded in North America have occured here (160 miles per hour).

Directions: From Ward, Take Brainard Lake Road (CR #102) to the Long Lake Trailhead.
