Moonshine Trail lies in the northern portion of Mueller State Park and can be accessed via Buffalo Rock, Cahill Pond or Chessman Ranch Trails. The trail travels through high meadows gaining approximately 100 feet as it leads from north to south.
The trail begins at an elevation of 9,320 feet and leads south toward Cahill Pond. In approximately one half mile the trail reaches Cahill Pond Trail and turns eastwardly. The trail ascends a small hill, among aspens, which eventually provides a good viewing area of Pikes Peak. From this viewing spot it is a short distance through meadows to Chessman Ranch Trail. Moonshine Trail is approximately one mile in length.
Directions: From Mueller State Park Visitor Center, Follow Wapiti Road northward to the campground. The Grouse Mountain Trailhead lies at the north end of the campground. Follow Cahill Pond, Buffalo Rock or Cheesman Ranch (to the east) to reach Moonshine Trail.
