The quickest access I mile south of Lake Isabel to the sign on Highway 165. The trail comes out at a almost ever-present patch of snow that can be seen from I-25 when traveling south from Pueblo.

The quickest access is to go I mile south of Lake Isabel on Highway 165. There is signage next to the road.

From here, the trail is pretty steep and gravely the first 1/2 mile, then it mellows for awhile, then it gets steep again. Approximately 4 miles from the highway it gets steep again and switchbacks through timber. You come out at a patch of snow that is almost always present. When driving south from Pueblo on I-25 you may chance to spot it.

There are no creeks to provide water in this area but there is a spring about 3 1/2 miles from the highway trailhead.

Alternately, one can drive a total of 24 miles from Lake Isabel. Go north on Highway 165 to the Ophir Creek Road. Follow the better road to the left which is Greenhorn Mountain Road. The Snowslide trailhead is just past where Cisneros Trail crosses the road and Pole Creek Trail ends.

You are starting from the top of the Wet Mountains and you will be going down the steep sections in your decent to Lake Isabel. Remember that you also have to go back up to retrieve your vehicle.
