Silver Strand Beach is an isolated beach neighborhood that stretches for more than a mile. More commonly referred to as "The Strand," it is widely considered the best surfing beach in Oxnard. The area features nearby waterfront mansions, post-war homes, and the Oxnard base of the United States Coast Guard. Silver Strand is also the supposed birthplace of "Nardcore," a hardcore style of punk music.

BeachExpert Tips & Helpful Hints
  • This mile-long beach is a favorite of local surfers, but rumor has it they aren't too fond of visitors. Take it in stride or choose a different beach (there are plenty in the area).
  • Lifeguards are on duty from Memorial Day to Labor Day; check with them about ocean conditions before surfing.
  • Public restrooms are at the north end of the beach. There are two parking lots—one off of San Nicholas Road, the other off Sawtelle Avenue. Parking is free during the day.
