Located in Santa Cruz on the bluffs overlooking Monterey Bay, the Seymour Marine Discovery Center provides exciting and engaging ocean education programs. It is a must-see for science lovers and a good complement to a visit to nearby Monterey Bay Aquarium. Part of the Joseph M. Long Marine Laboratory, a research and education facility at the University of California, Santa Cruz, the center serves as a base for field research in Monterey Bay and the ocean beyond. Along with remarkable exhibit halls, which include the world's largest whale skeleton, the Discovery Center has an aquarium, touch tanks where visitors can interact with marine life including coral and sea stars, tours to a marine mammal research area, the Ocean Discovery Shop, and unsurpassed vistas of Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. The center is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.; it is closed Mondays. Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for seniors, students, and children four to 16.
