  • Not only is Pillar Point Harbor home to one of California's largest fishing fleets, it's the starting point for marine adventures of all kinds.
  • Both California Canoe & Kayak and Half Moon Bay Kayak offer trips and rentals from this location. California C&K offers takeaway rentals so visitors can explore the coast solo for a few days.
  • The Oceanic Society also has a base here and offers three-hour whale-watching trips mornings and afternoons.
Pillar Point Jetty isn't known for its stellar surfing, but it's another of the area's good beginner spots. Maverick's, at the tip of Pillar Point, is one of the world's great—and treacherous—big-wave surf spots.
