Tenaja Trail heads north, ending at Four Corners (north end exit via Bear Canyon Loop Trail to Ortega Highway). Day hikers will enjoy the 3.5-mile southern route to Fisherman's Camp. From the trailhead, Tenaja Trail is broad and gentle, dropping quickly into a cool oak woodland and crossing Tenaja Canyon Creek. From that point the trail follows the creek through oak and sycamore, a multitude of wildflowers in springtime, tumbles of granite boulders and panoramic views of San Mateo Canyon. Because there is such an abundance of shade, this trail is an excellent summer hike. However, don't miss it in full bloom in spring! Always carry a good supply of drinking water.
