La Jolla Shores is a sandy beach approximately one mile long, adjacent to a residential area. In summer, it has extremely gentle waves, though sometimes rip currents are strong. It has the only beachfront boat launch within the city limits, and nearby Kellogg Park offers an opportunity for picnicking.
