Though you might not normally associate traditional French bistro fare with the beach, French 75 offers a casually elegant setting for a romantic dinner that is perfectly in tune with its laid-back environs. Steaks and seafood dominate the menu at this always hopping restaurant, where the red-leather booths are generally occupied by a good-looking, mixed crowd of tourists and locals enjoying live jazz Wednesday through Saturday. Prices range from $31 to $50, and portions are pleasantly generous. The weekday "Bubbly Hour" is an early evening Laguna treat offering a half-price selection of champagne cocktails, signature martinis, and wines. It's a great place to begin the evening, even if you don't stay for dinner, though doing both would make for a stellar evening.
