  • Upper Newport Bay is an estuary, where fresh and saltwater meet and mix, creating a unique habitat for flora and fauna. Some 200 species of birds, as well as mammals, fish, and plants call this estuary home.
  • Kayaking, fishing, canoeing, hiking, and cycling are all popular here. The Reserve is home to six rare or endangered species of birds, and one endangered plant species.
  • Guided nature walks are usually offered the first and/or third Saturday of the month. Friends Tours take place the second Saturday of the month from October through March. Both are free. Call 949.923.2269 for information.
