Like so many of Disney's fantastical brainchilds, California Adventure was built not only to delight its guests on dreamlike thrill rides, but to capture some of the state's cultural and historic gems. Spread across 55 acres, Sunshine Plaza, The Golden State, Hollywood Pictures Backlot, A Bug's Land, and Paradise Pier showcase the sites California is famous for, including the Golden Gate Bridge and glamorous Hollywood Boulevard. Grizzly Peak Recreation Area, a not-so-small-scale model of California's national parks, features mountain peaks and river rapids. Best of all are the wild coasters, water rides, and haunted Hollywood Tower Hotel, where brave souls tour the ghostly manor before plunging 13 stories to the ominous Twilight Zone.
