The 500 or so mature giant sequoias in Mariposa Grove are among the largest living things on earth. Some are more than 3,000 years old, and standing among them, it's hard not to be impressed and inspired. Mariposa Grove is the park's largest grove of giant sequoias, and a must-see. It's located near Yosemite's south entrance, and the road to it is typically open April to November. The grove is crowded in summer, especially around the Grizzly Giant—the indisputable star attraction—and the California Tunnel Tree. Crowds thin in the upper grove.
