The 1,300-foot Venice Pier, built in 1963, was falling to pieces by the 1980s. It was closed and scheduled for demolition in 1986. Venice residents rallied to the cause, and after years of perseverance, the pier was restored and reopened in 1997. Venice Pier is a favorite spot for local fishermen.

  • Originally built in 1965 and severely damaged by the storms that battered the California coast in 1983, the pier was rebuilt in 1997. It was damaged again in 2005 but reopened a few months later in 2006.
  • There are restrooms on the pier, and while the city of Venice embraces cyclists and skaters elsewhere, no bikes or skates are allowed on the pier.
