Backbone Trail to Sandstone Peak is a 3-mile round trip, strenuous hike. The trail begins from the Sandstone Peak Trailhead at an elevation of 2,030 feet. Scenic view of the Conejo and San Fernando Valleys, as well as the Pacific Coast are enjoyed. Note: The Backbone Trail continues west to Sycamore Canyon and other trails in Point Mugu State Park. Obtain maps before entering the Boney Mountain Wilderness Area.

Dogs must be on leash at all times and are allowed only on trails, access roads and in the campground. Dogs are not allowed on state park trails. Trail closures may be in effect during and following significant rainfall to protect park resources. Trails will be re-opened when dry enough to sustain public use.

Directions: From Thousand Oaks, CA, Travel US 101 / Ventura Freeway east to Highway 23 / Westlake Boulevard. Head south on Hwy. 23 to Mulholland Highway. Turn right (west) and proceed to Yerba Buena Road to reach Circle X Ranch. Park at Sanstone Peak Trailhead.
