Mishe Mokwa Trail to Split Rock is a 3.5-mile round trip hike of moderate difficulty. Bikes and horses are prohibited. This trail begins 1/3 mile up the Backbone Trail from the Sandstone Peak Trailhead. Traversing riparian, coastal sage scrub and chaparral eco-systems, the trail offers wonderful views of Car-lisle Canyon and Balanced Rock. The oak grove at Split Rock provides a shaded picnic spot.

Dogs must be on leash at all times and are allowed only on trails, access roads and in the campground. Dogs are not allowed on state park trails. Trail closures may be in effect during and following significant rainfall to protect park resources. Trails will be re-opened when dry enough to sustain public use.

Directions: From Thousand Oaks, CA, Travel US 101 / Ventura Freeway east to Highway 23 / Westlake Boulevard. Head south on Hwy. 23 to Mulholland Highway. Turn right (west) and proceed to Yerba Buena Road to reach Circle X Ranch. Park at Sanstone Peak Trailhead.
