Best known for his role as Pancho on The Cisco Kid, Leo Carrillo was also an active conservationist and 18-year member of the California Beach and Parks commission. Along its 1.5 sandy miles, the park has a little something for everyone, from surfing and fishing to swimming and beachcombing. Locals walk their dogs on the shore, where giant tidepools form safe havens for tiny sea creatures. Trails weave through the grounds and mysterious caves, and reefs beckon to curious beachgoers. In summer, tall sycamores shade campers from the hot afternoon sun.

BeachExpert Tips & Helpful Hints
  • This 1.5-mile beach is a watersports paradise. It's named for a well-known actor from decades ago (the Cisco Kid's sidekick, for those of you old enough to remember).
  • Surfers and divers should always partner with a buddy. Stay in areas where lifeguards are on duty, and check in often about water conditions.
  • Need to look up surfing or diving information? Leo Carrillo State Beach now has Wi-Fi.
