Hastain Trail is located in Lower Franklin Canyon offering a 2.3-mile round trip hike. Rated moderate to strenuous, this hike rises steadily on a fire road through a chaparral covered slope. An overlook offers views of the lower canyon, west Los Angeles and, on a clear day, the Pacific Ocean. From there, the trail drops down to a single track trail to the lawn at the Ranch Area next to the old Doheny House. Wild peony, golden yarrow, bush sunflower, and popcorn flower paint splashes of color along the trail.

Dogs must be on leash at all times. For the consideration of others, please clean up after your pet. Trail closures may be in effect during and following significant rainfall to protect park resources. Trails will be re-opened when dry enough to sustain public use.

Parking areas: The main parking lot is located at the Ranch Area adjacent to the Doheny House. Additional parking is available along Lake Drive and at the Sooky Goldman Nature Center.

Directions: From Los Angeles, CA, (Lower Franklin Canyon) Take the San Diego Freeway / US 405 to Sunset Boulevard. Head east on Sunset Boulevard and proceed several miles to Beverly Drive. Go about half a mile and turn left onto Coldwater Canyon Drive. Turn right on Franklin Canyon Drive and proceed about 1 mile making a right turn onto Lake Drive. Park at main lot at end of road. Note: to reach Upper Franklin Canyon, continue north on Franklin Canyon Drive past Lake Drive.
