Xunantunich is a Mayan archaeological site whose name means "Stone Woman." Many claim a woman's ghost inhabits the site, hence the name. It features a large pyramid called El Castillo and a museum that features a 3D model of the entire site.

  • Book a tour guide so you won't have to walk a mile to the site from the ferry.
  • More than 25 temples and palaces rise in six plazas and the site is still under excavation. The highlight: El Castillo, the Castle, rises a majestic 130 feet, making the pyramid the second tallest man-made structure in Belize.
