Interactive exhibits give them the chance to try their hand at Aussie-rules football, check their fitness, manipulate holographic images, and much more. Melbourne's historic Spotswood Pumping Station is at the heart of Scienceworks, with a self-guided or guided tour of the facility giving visitors the chance to see giant, gleaming steam-pumping engines in action. The 30-minute show in the Lightning Room, meanwhile, wows young and old alike with high-voltage bolts of lightning. A visit to Melbourne Planetarium is another experience that shouldn't be missed; the high-tech simulation of the night sky projected onto a 16-meter domed ceiling is simply stunning.
