Budding wildlife enthusiasts will love visiting Kiwi Birdlife Park. The park is all about conservation, which for families also translates into an opportunity to see some of New Zealand's most endangered birds. The highlight is, of course, the chance to see the iconic Kiwi, but young ones will also enjoy their encounters with the free-flying birds that inhabit this green oasis. The park is also home to a number of ancient taratua reptiles. Keep your eyes peeled for the rare blue ducks, black stilts, and flightless Campbell Island teals. Spread out over eight acres, the Kiwi Birdlife Park is easy to walk around, and even the youngest member of your party (assuming they have learned to walk) will be able to follow the paths of the Native Garden Trail. Kiwi feeding sessions, conservation shows, and the chance to visit a reconstructed Maori hunting village also help keep the kids amused.
